Navigation:
- the menu on the left-hand side of the window provides access to all areas of the website. When the mouse cursor is hovered over entries on this menu you can either click a menu item to select an operation or extra levels of menu sub-items will pop out.
- there are many pre-set Product Section searches listed on the menus.

Searching:
- our site was designed from the ground up to provide fast and easy searching for products.
- entering keywords separated by a space in the searchbox (shown at the top of every page and also at the bottom of every Product Listing page) will result in an OR search - i.e. if keyword1 or keyword2 is found each product record will display.
- prefixing a keywords with a + (plus) sign will result in an AND search - i.e. if +keyword1 and +keyword2 is found in a single product record then those records will display.

if you are new to Ladybird book collecting the following tips may be of assistance:

Dates shown in Ladybird books can be very misleading. Beware sites which claim that books are the date shown on the inside cover or frontispiece without additional corroborating evidence. On this site you will find additional evidence to help establish the true date of the edition on sale

Tally Number: Ladybird books in the 1960s and 1970s often carried on their back cover a statement of the number of ladybird titles available. This is known as the tally number. The earlier the number the earlier the book. An approximate age guide for Tally Numbers follows:

Original Purchase Price: The original purchase price is a good guide to the age of an edition. For many years Ladybird books were sold for 2/6. For a short period (c.1969-1971) books carried the price in both decimal and pre-decimal versions and from the early seventies the price is shown in decimal currency only.

Dust-jackets. Early Ladybird books have dust jackets but these were phased out c.1964.

Matt v. laminated covers. When dust jackets were abandoned books carried a matt coloured picture on the front cover to replace the colourful dust jacket. But during the 1970s there was a move to laminated covers rather than matt covers.

Last title shown on cover. Only more recent Ladybird Titles indicate whether they are 1st editions. On earlier titles a probable 1st edition can be inferred by checking whether the book is the last title listed on the back cover. Where a book is stated as being a first edition on this site then this is being inferred from this sort of evidence.

Publisher's name change from Wills & Hepworth to Ladybird. The Company name was changed in 1971 from Wills & Hepworth Ltd to Ladybird Ltd. which provides another indicator to the age of the book. When searching on this site for specific titles it is advisable to try both publisher names.
